Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi – a photo blog

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi – a photo blog

I cannot deny how much I am in awe of this beautiful monument! Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi is perhaps my favourite place to see in this country and although some might beg to differ (after all, the United Arab Emirates is home to some of the world's most popular skyscrapers and architectural wonders such as Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab), personally I have not been mesmerised by any other structure, in its wholesome beauty, the exterior as well as interior, as I have by this mosque.

I have visited this mosque during the day as well as sunset and dusk and managed to capture spectacular images on my trips. This is a photo blog of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi, all the way from its marble white facade that is visible far from the road, to the tall columns inside which are absolutely breathtaking in their majesty and intricate design, the artistically carved glass windows, the colossal chandeliers that hang from the ceiling and the gorgeous patterns on the floor as well as the walls. Enough said! Here are my pictures:

The impressive building is visible for afar and as you approach, the grandiose of the structure will impress you. It is one of the few mosques in this region that allow tourists to enter (except on Fridays). However, respectable clothing (covering arms, legs and the head, for women) is expected. Don't worry if you aren't in the required clothes, you can borrow an 'abaya' or 'kandura', the local dress, from the entrance.

Not only is the mosque beautiful during the day, catching the sunset and dusk here is something I would totally recommend. The white structure in the dark backdrop of the blue / black sky is as charming as it is during the day, if not more. Even better, during the night, the mosque is beautifully lit, making it yet more photogenic during the late hours.

I so much agree with you here, when I was in Dubai for a layover and visited the city, I was not impressed by those huge structures and sky-scrapers. I love history and architecture apart from nature and adventures. This will definitely be a place I would love to spend few hours exploring each and every corner of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

I’ve also been to the Grand Mosque and it is indeed stunning. Those inlaid semi-precious flowers all over the walls are one of my favorite features. It’s a must visit when in the UAE.

What a beautiful mosque! I love the details that I always find there are in mosques. Those corridors at night are just so magical all lit up. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen written about in UAE. I love seeing the other things other than Dubai’s skyscrapers.

Wow, this is such a thorough view of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque! I have recently seen so many pictures of it in my Instagram feed but they all are of the courtyard. I love how you have captured the intricate details of the mosque and how your photos show it all throughout the day. Lovely night shots. Can’t wait to visit Abu Dhabi!

I love your pictures of the Mosque. I visited the Grand Mosque December of 2015 and just fell in love with it. The pristine white of the buildings makes it a photographer dream.

WOW! I agree with you – I’d lean more towards loving this architecture than the tall skyscrapers. The chandelier is amazing (I concur) and I love that you were there during the day and were able to get photos at dusk and after sunset too. The blue pools really add a nice contrast against the white building.

WOW! This is one mosque I have been dying to see. It looks so grand and beautiful. I was recently in Sharjah and Dubai. And, I almost made it to Abu Dhabi. I really love the mosque architecture in the middle east. For sure next time I am checking this one out.

I find the architecture of the Middle East with its vibrant colors very inspiring to study. But the mosque at Abu Dhabi is a stunning example in pristine white. Sometimes color adds life and sometimes it just distracts, isn’t it 🙂

Although I’m not a religious person at all, I do like visiting temples and religious buildings when I’m my travels mainly for the stunning design and architecture. almost all have such intricate design and this mosque looks more like a palace, I love how it lights up and the colors at dusk look amazing.

Next time, when I am in the country, I will try to spend more time in Abu Dhabi and go to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

What a gigantic structure! I love the contrast of the blue pool with the shiny white domes of the mosque. The geometry inside the corridor is something really enticing. I guess it is a throwback to the golden age of that civilization.

I’ve visited Dubai, and was amazed by the arctitecture there, but have not yet visited Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque looks like reason enough to visit alone! Definitely an impressive structure – the entrance is so stunning. From the blue pools, the the marble courtyard, I don’t know where I would want to spend the most time! Amazing photos – and thanks for the tip on catching the sunset and dusk here – night lighting gives it a whole new life.

We visited the Grand Mosque back in 2012 and loved it. As you said, respectable clothing is a must. We always wore long pants and shirts when we were in the Middle East to respect the locals, but it surprised me how many tourists we saw in shorts, even around or trying to enter the Grand Mosque.
