The 5 Best Places for a Summer Beach Holiday

This is a guest post by Steve Conway, a techie by profession and a passionate traveler who loves to soak up the sun, swim in azure waters and explore far-off destinations that hold the promise of great adventure. He is yet to explore Southeast Asia but loves the coastal getaways in Europe, North and South Americas.Β

If your idea of the perfect summer holiday involves relaxing and soaking up the sun on the beach, then you are spoiled for choice when it comes to destinations. Although there are many terrific places to do this all around the world, it can also be hard to know where the best places to go are as sometimes these place can be overcrowded and not have enough to keep you entertained. With this in mind, here are a few of the best places, in my opinion, for a sunny summer vacation where you can spend your days soaking up the sun and relaxing on the beach.

Spain

Due to its geographical location, Spain boasts a beautiful climate throughout the year with temperatures reaching the mid 30’s during summer. It is also home to truly breathtaking beaches which are ideal if you want to relax with a good book or splash in the ocean. The Costa del Sol is always popular with holidaymakers but you could also consider Costa Brava which can be quieter or even the Canary Islands. No matter where you choose, Spain holidays will always be enjoyable, especially if you have your own private villa to enjoy too.

Costa Brava, Spain

Cancun, Mexico

Cancun features picturesque beaches with gorgeous white sandy beaches, palm trees and crystal blue waters along with a lovely tropical climate. Although you could happily spend the entire holiday gazing out over the waters, there is also a lot more to do in the region such as exploring the ancient Mayan temples.

Florida, USA

There is a very good reason why so many people flock to Florida during the warmer months of the year as it is the ideal spot for a summer vacation. Here you will find a lovely climate, sandy shores, cities with beaches and stunning natural parks. It is popular with families but it can also be a nice spot for a romantic break or a trip with a group of friends.

Brazil

Adventurous travelers that are seeking out stunning beaches that are not as populated as others will be intrigued by Brazil as a summer holiday destination. It has amazing beaches all around the country and is somewhere that is less-travelled than other destinations, so you could benefit from extra peace and quiet.

Bahamas

When you picture what an idyllic beach looks like there is a very good chance that you are picturing something similar to what you find in the Bahamas - one of the most luxurious beach destinations on the planet. The beaches are incredibly beautiful here, and the relaxed way of life ensures that it is easy to chill out and enjoy yourself here, plus the local cuisine is sublime.

Those that like to spend their summer holiday relaxing on the beach and catching rays can sometimes find it hard to choose a suitable destination. Beach holidays can sometimes be disappointing if they are overcrowded or if the beaches are not as idyllic as you had hoped. The above destinations will certainly not disappoint as they are the best beach holidays destination all around the world with beautiful weather, picture-perfect beaches and enough to keep you happy and entertained during your stay.

  1. I hadn’t thought of Mexico as a summer destination. Yes, it does have stunning beaches so definitely worth it. Such a beautiful place.

  2. I haven’t been to these places yet. I went to Barcelona once but I haven’t been to any other beaches in Spain, while I live in London. My friends just went to the canary islands even in spring they enjoyed the beach.

  3. I do love the beaches of the Med. So Spain is always a great suggestion for us. I am intrigued with the idea of enjoying the beaches of Brazil. Would especially be happy to find it less busy than other spots. People always laugh when we head south to Bahamas in the summer. But we do know we can get predictable great weather. Thanks for the tease about summer coming!

  4. The Bahamas is one of my favorite destinations. It’s gorgeous and you can get away from the crowds by selecting a lesser visited island. It’s a gorgeous diving destination, too, which is one of my favorite things to do during a hot summer.

  5. There’s nowhere better to spend the summer than on a beach. Doesn’t really matter where it is in the world, all I need is the sand and the waves and I’m happy. Thanks for this guide to some of the best summer beach spots! I spent a few summers on the beaches of Florida and Brazil as a kid and they were always a lovely time. People often talk of the beaches in the Bahamas but not the food, I’ll have to try it out someday! Thanks for sharing!

  6. I was in Costa del Sol last fall and fell in love, you really can’t go wrong with any chosen city along the coast. And, I’m always surprised by how gorgeous the Florida Keys are. I haven’t been to Cancun yet and need to change that

  7. The Bahamas would have to win from that list (not that I’ve been there, but the photos are always immense). My favourite so far has been the Maldives, I could have relaxed there for ever, with a cocktail in hand.

  8. I always love a beach vacation, but usually in the winter, when it’s cold where we normally live. I’d really love to visit Spain someday, both for the beaches and history. I’ve been to 3 of these locations and agree that they are really great places.

  9. These are great suggestions for a summer beach holiday. Spain is the usual pick for people in the UK, because, as you say the weather is always good. I hadn’t thought of Brazil as an option, but of course it is!

  10. Nice list, especially for Americans as almost all the destinations, are closer to that continent. When I was living there my favorite was Kauai, in Hawaii. You should check and add it later!

    1. I’ve actually been to Hawaii myself and absolutely loved it. Completely agree with it being one of the top beach destinations πŸ™‚

  11. A good list but I think a lot of other beachy countries were missed out. I think the only downside of Spain is some of the beach destinations have bloody cold sea because of the Atlantic Ocean but places on the east coast and the Balerics islands are nice warm seas. Crazy seas. πŸ˜€ Cant wait to check out Mexico beaches soon πŸ™‚

    1. Hawaii is a fantastic choice too, I agree. I can actually think of so many more places in Southeast Asia to include as well and maybe some destinations in Africa such as Zanzibar. But I haven’t been to any on this list, I can’t say which ones would be the top 5 πŸ™‚

  12. You’ve got me in the mood for a beach holiday now! I’m happy to report I’ve been to 4 out of 5 places on the list! Brazil is somewhere I’d love to go one day. I’ve read so many great things about the beaches there, and I’d to see them for myself!

  13. I could really use a visit to the Bahamas right now. Warm weather and beautiful beaches really suit me! San Diego is nice, where I’m from, but not quite tropical.

  14. I’ve been to all of these places and you’ve got them all right. They are perfect for a beach holiday. I wish I was back in any one of them right now!

  15. For someone living in India, beach in the summers is not a popular choice. So I loved the choice of places here. Spain is certainly amazing all round the year but summers are really special. That’s the only place on the list that I have been to. The rest are surely on my bucket list. Would love to visit Bahamas

  16. Oh I would love to spend even just a week of summer in Cancun. I keep on seeing this place in some movies I have at home, which makes me inspire a lot to visit this place (if a good opportunity comes, of course).
Now check for the best Cancun resort for me and my love.

  17. That’s an interesting list. But I would add several more to this, esp. all the island countries…
Bahamas & Cancun would top my list of places to go, from this list.
And as a wild thing, I would love to visit St.Helena Island!

    1. I agree with you, there are so many Greek Islands and even several places in Asia that I’d add to the list πŸ™‚

  18. We are beach goers during the summer holidays and spend a lot of time boogie boarding. These are all awesome destinations to go to during the summer and with awesome food too! But I think my favourite spot would be to go to Spain during this time and a private villa to spoil myself would be just perfect!

  19. I am yet to see Copa Cabana in Brazil, but I agree with all the other choices. My favorite from this list is Costa Brava. I’ve been there a few years ago for a TBEX meeting and totally fell in love with those pristine beaches. Hope to return to the beautiful beaches of Spain soon. Great photos, by the way.

    1. I haven’t been to any of them, unfortunately. But heading to Spain this summer so at least I’ll check off one from the list πŸ˜‰

  20. I have so happy to see Spain on top of the list, My girlfriend and I are heading to Spain this Summer, we have been so excited planning it, though I must admit she is better planner than me! We will be spending about two days in beautiful Mallorca, look forward to the beautiful skies, sun and Azure waters!

  21. Wow! How to choose which is the best place for a summer beach holiday. My first thought was Spain and then the Bahamas. The Costa Brava area of Spain has won me over, not only for the beaches but for the Tapas and great wine in that area.

  22. I am ready for a summer beach vacation. We are overdue for a romantic getaway so Florida might be where we end up. Kev has been wanting to visit the ancient Mayan temples, so we might end up in Cancun instead. Maybe our budget will allow both in one summer!

  23. Great list and I love that they are all so far apart geographically! Spain is amazing in the summer, so much to see and do. I haven’t yet been to Brazil but it sounds like a great place for some uncrowded beach time!
