The perfect Dubai itinerary for 3, 5 and 7 days

Despite having lived in Dubai for 13 years and being an avid travel blogger, it surprises even me that I have never penned down the perfect Dubai itinerary. This vibrant city, with its stunning skyline, luxurious malls, and rich cultural heritage, has been my home for over a decade, yet somehow, I never got around to sharing my insider's perspective on exploring it. Perhaps it's because Dubai has always been a part of my everyday life, blending seamlessly into my routine, making it easy to overlook the extraordinary experiences it offers to travelers.

However, the time has finally come to rectify this oversight. In this comprehensive blog post, I will provide an all-encompassing guide to discovering Dubai, tailored to offer you the very best of what this tourist-friendly city has to offer. From the must-visit attractions and hidden gems to culinary delights and adventure spots, you can expect a detailed, insider's view and recommendations that only a long-term resident can provide. Whether you're planning your first visit or looking to explore beyond the usual hotspots, this guide promises to enhance your Dubai experience with the best tips and insights.

Most people visit the UAE for 3-5 days, which is certainly enough time to cover the highlights of the country. During such a visit, you can cover the iconic attractions and check-the-box destinations successfully. However, if you have the luxury of a longer stay, it opens up the opportunity to go beyond the tourist destinations and explore more off-beat attractions, allowing for a more relaxed pace to truly absorb the essence of the Emirates.

As someone who values making the most of the limited paid vacation time I get from work, I understand the need for an action-packed itinerary that covers the maximum in the minimum amount of time. Therefore, I will start with a basic, check-the-boxes itinerary for a 3-day trip, ensuring you don’t miss the essential experiences. For those fortunate enough to have more time, I will also include additional suggestions to extend your stay and dive deeper into the unique and lesser-known aspects of the UAE, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching travel experience.

Dubai Itinerary for 3 days

Day 1: Burj Khalifa, Dubai Aquarium & Dubai Fountain

Undoubtedly, the number one attraction in Dubai is the Burj Khalifa. Despite having lived here for 14 years, I am still in awe of this majestic architectural marvel and can't help but admire it every time I drive by or find myself in its vicinity. While it may seem like the most touristy thing to do, I highly recommend visiting the top of the Burj Khalifa to enjoy the unparalleled views from the tallest building in the world.

You have three choices based on your budget:

• At the Top Burj Khalifa, which is an observation deck on the 124^th & 125^th floor, open air as well as indoor, priced at AED 179 (higher during peak hours)
• At the Top Burj Khalifa SKY, located on 148^th floor, indoor lounge (but the ticket includes access to 124^th and 125^th floors as well), priced at AED 399
• World’s Highest Lounge on 154^th floor, priced at AED 769

From here, you can proceed to The Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world and home to the Dubai Aquarium. Shopping enthusiasts will find no better place to indulge, with countless alleyways and multiple floors housing all the world's top brands. There are various distinct sections here for shoppers such as the Fashion Avenue (where you will find all luxury brands), The Village (a charming open-air setting with a selection of retail outlets as well as quaint cafes), China Town (an area dedicated to Chinese culture, cuisine, and shopping), and The Souk (designed to resemble a traditional Arabic marketplace).

The Dubai Aquarium is one of the largest suspended aquariums in the world, housing thousands of aquatic animals. You can see the aquarium from the outside, without buying a ticket. However, if you wish to walk-through the tunnel or enjoy glass-bottom boat rides, visit the underwater zoo, or experience cage snorkeling and shark diving, then you must buy a ticket!

In the evening, walk towards the Dubai Fountain, located right outside the Dubai Mall. The world's largest choreographed fountain system, it is set against the backdrop of the Burj Khalifa, and features water jets that shoot up to 500 feet in the air, synchronized with a range of musical genres from classical to contemporary. The shows start a little before sunset hours and happen daily and can be seen from various vantage points around the lake (for free), including dedicated viewing platforms and nearby restaurants.

End your evening with a drink and/or dinner at one of the restaurants located in Souk Al Bahar, located on the opposite side of the fountains from the Dubai Mall. I highly recommend Karma Kafé to those looking to enjoy great cocktails, Asian food and a terrace overlooking the fountains. There’s also Timeout Market (the same concept as in Europe) which offers a great vibe, selection of foods & drinks, as well as terrace seating overlooking the fountains.

Day 2: Old Dubai (Bastakiya, Gold & Spice Souks) & Desert Safari

While Dubai is popular for its swanky buildings, ostentatious display of wealth & fancy entertainment options, my favourite part is Bastakiya, where you get the opportunity to see traditional architecture & visit charming hidden cafes. Also known as Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, it is one of Dubai's oldest heritage sites and a charming district featuring narrow alleyways, wind towers, and beautifully restored buildings that now house art galleries, museums, and cozy diners. You can also visit the Dubai Museum, located in the Al Fahidi Fort, and learn about the city's rich history and culture. I highly recommend grabbing a meal at Arabian Tea House Restaurant & Café, where you’ll enjoy an excellent ambience as well as Middle Eastern cuisine.

From here, walk towards the creek, from where you can board an abra (a traditional wooden boat) towards the souks (old souk, spice souk & gold souk). These are excellent places to enjoy the charm of old Dubai while taking in the sights and sounds of the vibrant creek area.

In the afternoon, book yourself on a Desert Safari. This is a thrilling adventure in Dubai that you cannot miss! You will be picked up you’re your hotel and transported amidst the stunning landscapes of the Arabian desert.  Starting with dune bashing which lasts about 15-20 min and a photo op with the sunset, you will be then transported to a traditional Bedouin camp where you can indulge in activities such as sandboarding, camel riding, and other cultural experiences such as henna painting, falconry, and belly dancing performances. The breathtaking sunset views over the dunes and a delicious barbecue dinner under the stars make it a memorable and unique experience.

Day 3: Dubai Frame, Museum of the Future, evening cruise in Dubai Marina 

Start your day by exploring the Dubai Frame, which offers a unique way to experience the city's blend of old and new. The iconic structure provides panoramic views of both historic Dubai to the north and modern Dubai to the south. You can walk along the glass-floored Sky Deck for a thrilling perspective and enjoy interactive exhibits that showcase Dubai's transformation from a fishing village to a global metropolis. The Dubai Frame is not only an architectural marvel but also an engaging attraction that captures the essence of the city's past, present, and future.

From here, head to one of the newer attractions in Dubai, Museum of the Future. While the most attractive part of the museum is the architecture itself, with the Arabic calligraphy intricately merged into its façade, making it a visual centerpiece in Dubai's skyline, the museum itself features interactive exhibits and immersive experiences that explore cutting-edge advancements in science, technology, and sustainability. It aims to inspire curiosity and creativity, making it a must-visit for those interested in what lies ahead for humanity and technology.

In the evening, head to Dubai Marina, one of my favourite neighbourhoods in the city. This man-made marina features a picturesque canal lined with high-rise buildings, upscale hotels, and trendy restaurants. You can enjoy leisurely strolls along the Marina Walk or take in the lovely sights through a cruise. I highly recommend taking either a Dhow Cruise or a more luxurious dinner yacht cruise (depending on your budget) as the best way to experience this place. You may also choose to dine at one of the many restaurants located in the area instead. I recommend Asia Asia in Pier 7, for excellent vantage point views of the marina as well as great food & ambience.

Dubai Itinerary for 5 days

Day 4: Kite Beach, The View Palm Jumeirah, JBR

Today is beach day! Make your way to Kite Beach, the most popular beach in Dubai, thanks to the stunning views it offers of Burj Al Arab, with a vibrant atmosphere and diverse range of activities. With a wide stretch of golden sand and clear turquoise waters, it’s ideal for kite surfing, beach volleyball, water sports, swimming or simply relaxing on the sunbeds. There’s a long, scenic promenade with jogging and biking tracks, as well as numerous food trucks and cafés offering delicious snacks and refreshments.

In the afternoon, head to The View Palm Jumeirah, an observation deck located on one of the largest man-made islands in the world, shaped like a palm tree. The View is an observation deck that offers an unparalleled vantage point from the 52nd floor of the Palm Tower, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai skyline. The observation deck allows one to see the island's unique, palm-shaped design and the surrounding waters from an impressive height. While its slightly more expensive to do so, sunset hours are the best time to visit!

In the evening, you could visit one the many bars & lounges located on The Palm itself. I recommend Koko Bay, a beachfront restaurant and lounge concept inspired by the allure of Bali's beaches, offering a distinctive dining experience, located on the Palm West Beach. The area has an amazing vibe, and you can enjoy a lovely walk here before you sit for a meal.

Alternatively (or in addition), you can visit Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR), yet another vibrant neighbourhood in Dubai. JBR Walk, inspired by Miami Beach, is a lively waterfront district that offers a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants with lively street performances and events. With its picturesque views of the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai Eye, JBR provides a blend of relaxation and entertainment in a dynamic coastal setting.

Day 5: Daytrip to Abu Dhabi (Grand Mosque, Yas Island)

If you have some extra time, I recommend spending 2 days in Abu Dhabi instead of one. However, if you’re pressed on time, then there are 2 locations which you must visit.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

This is, in my opinion, the top must-see destination in Abu Dhabi. The striking white marble structure stands out against its surroundings, catching your eye even from afar. Its breathtaking architecture and intricate interior details are truly remarkable, drawing inevitable comparisons to India’s iconic Taj Mahal. While the Taj remains one of the world’s most celebrated wonders, this mosque offers an unforgettable experience of its own. Be sure to dress modestly—cover your shoulders, ankles, and bring a headscarf, as the mosque does not provide abayas. However, nearby shops offer them for purchase. Visiting at sunset is ideal, as the mosque becomes beautifully illuminated, providing the perfect backdrop for stunning, Instagram-worthy photos.

Yas Island

ou’ve likely come across this place in the news recently, thanks to a bold marketing campaign launched by the government, showcasing it as a must-visit destination in the capital. Yas Island truly lives up to the hype and deserves a full day to experience everything it has to offer. However, if you’re pressed for time, I recommend focusing on what interests you the most. You can choose between three world-class attractions: the Warner Bros Theme Park, Yas Waterworld, and Ferrari World. Each offers its own unique adventure—whether you’re a fan of thrilling rides, immersive cinematic experiences, or high-speed automotive excitement. Whether you seek family-friendly fun or adrenaline-pumping action, these iconic destinations have something for everyone. And if shopping is more your style, Yas Mall has plenty to offer for retail enthusiasts.

Why not stay overnight and experience some unique experiences? This Mangrove Kayaking experience in Abu Dhabi is the best way to experience some tranquillity amidst nature. There’s also The Louvre, located on Saadiyat Island. Perfect for art enthusiasts (but also architecture lovers), it is the first universal museum in the Arab world and features a striking dome structure that filters light into the galleries, creating a "rain of light" effect. The museum's collection spans cultures and time periods, with pieces ranging from ancient artifacts to contemporary works. It offers a unique cultural experience, blending global artistic heritage with the region’s own rich history.

Dubai Itinerary for 7 days

Day 6: Wild Wadi Waterpark / Atlantis Waterpark OR Ski Dubai & Mall of Emirates

If you’re a waterpark enthusiast, these two destinations are simply unmatched. Wild Wadi Waterpark, located right in front of the iconic Burj Al Arab, offers a perfect mix of adrenaline-pumping rides and more relaxed attractions for all types of visitors. Whether you’re seeking thrills or just want to unwind with private beach access, the real showstopper is the stunning backdrop. As you slide down the rides, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the world-famous Burj Al Arab, the sparkling blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, and the beautiful Jumeirah coastline. It’s not just the rides but the unbeatable scenery that makes Wild Wadi a truly unforgettable experience.

On the other hand, Aquaventure Waterpark, located at the iconic Atlantis hotel, delivers an equally exhilarating experience with its renowned ‘Leap of Faith’ and ‘Poseidon’s Revenge’ slides. With an even higher thrill factor, it also boasts a stunning backdrop of the Palm Islands and the turquoise waters of the Arabian Sea. Beyond the waterpark, Aquaventure offers easy access to other attractions like Dolphin Bay and The Lost Chambers Aquarium, allowing visitors to extend their adventure far beyond just the water slides, making it a must-visit for thrill-seekers and families alike.

Another unique activity that you may indulge in while in Dubai is a visit to Ski Dubai, located in Mall of Emirates. What makes this place surreal that it’s an artificial winter resort with snow slides & experiences such as like snowboarding, tobogganing, in the middle of a city that enjoys sun 360 days of the year, with an actual ski slope, suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers. The temperatures are maintained at 4 degrees C, and proper winter jackets, pants & gloves are provided at the venue, so no need to worry about being underdressed! You can even enjoy some hot chocolate or watch a movie in the snow cinema located inside the venue! Pretty cool, don’t you think?

Day 7: Miracle Garden & Global Village

Being outdoor, both these destinations can be experienced only in the winter months (between October – April) so make sure to check if they’re open when you’re planning to travel. Miracle Garden, a stunning floral park, is known for its vast displays of vibrant flowers arranged in creative, larger-than-life designs. These colorful flowers are shaped into spectacular structures like heart tunnels, floral castles, and even a life-sized Emirates A380 plane covered in blooms. There’s a new theme every year, offering plenty of Instagram-worthy moments amidst the stunning landscape. Even during the winter months, it can get quite warm in the afternoons, so I recommend visiting the place during early morning or early evening hours, just before sunset.

Located only 15 min away from Miracle Garden is yet another unique concept, called Global Village. This entertainment destination opens only in the evenings, so make sure to plan your day accordingly. The place brings together pavilions from over 90 countries to showcase their unique traditions, crafts, and cuisines. It offers one the chance to experience a blend of global cultures through live performances, themed attractions, and street food from around the world. You also have thrilling rides, games, concerts, and cultural shows, making it a dynamic mix of entertainment, shopping, and cultural exploration in one vibrant setting.
